COMMENDING Nicole Ey upon the occasion of being
named the 2017 New York State Elementary Assistant
Principal of the Year by the School Administrators
Association of New York State and the National
Association of Elementary School Principals
WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled;
its history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its
educational professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
individuals in the distinguished careers of those outstanding leaders,
whose dedication and achievements have been instrumental in developing
character and academic excellence in the young people of New York State;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Nicole Ey upon the occasion of being named the 2017 New York
State Elementary Assistant Principal of the Year by the School
Administrators Association of New York State and the National
Association of Elementary School Principals; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion will be celebrated at an Awards
Ceremony on Friday, May 5, 2017, at the Century House in Latham, New
York; and
WHEREAS, This award is given annually to a member of the School
Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS) who has set the
pace, character, and quality of education for the students in his or her
school; nominees are administrators who are committed to students,
parents and the community and have shown exceptional contributions to
the educational process; and
WHEREAS, Nicole Ey received her bachelor's degree from SUNY Oswego
and furthered her education with a masters in special education from
Mount Saint Mary College and her certificate of advanced studies from
C.W. Post/Long Island University; she returned home to Port Jervis, New
York, where she began her illustrious career in education; and
WHEREAS, Nicole Ey is being recognized for her leadership,
dedication, extraordinary efforts to exemplify excellence in educational
leadership and her commitment to making a difference for her students by
the members of her school community and colleagues from around the
state; and
WHEREAS, Leading the efforts to turn around the morale at the
school, Nicole Ey has been strengthening communication among all
stakeholders and implementing a positivity and character program
entitled Doing Things the Right Way; and
WHEREAS, Since the implementation of Doing Things the Right Way,
discipline referrals fell drastically and attendance at the school has
significantly improved; in addition, the sense of community, trust and
excitement has heightened as a direct result of her strategies and
countless hours of service after hours; and
WHEREAS, To address overcrowding at the school, Nicole Ey
spearheaded the revitalization of a little-used courtyard space into a
vibrant outdoor learning classroom; after securing a grant and spending
a summer organizing community volunteers and other funds, the space has
become a popular venue for regular instruction and special events; and
WHEREAS, Inspiring staff and community members to collaborate as a
team to achieve goals, Nicole Ey's generous and kind nature has resulted
in a space for staff and students to embrace learning in a place which
is inviting and peaceful; and
WHEREAS, Educators like Nicole Ey provide a tremendous service to
the future of our State and Nation inspiring generations of young people
in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their future
years; and
WHEREAS, Nicole Ey has clearly had an enduring impact on the youth
of Anna S. Kuhl Elementary School, as well as the community-at-large,
and accordingly merits recognition and applause for her impressive
dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
public education by providing their skills and talents to our schools;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Nicole Ey upon the occasion of being named the 2017 New York
State Elementary Principal of the Year by the School Administrators
Association of New York State and the National Association of Elementary
School Principals; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Nicole Ey.
