COMMENDING Ron Matthews upon the occasion of being
named the 2016 Citizen of the Year by The Noonday
Club

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and

WHEREAS, Ron Matthews has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership, and
consequently has been designated for special recognition; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Ron Matthews upon the occasion of being named the 2016 Citizen
of the Year by The Noonday Club, to be celebrated at a Dinner held in
his honor on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at the White Wolf Restaurant in
Napanoch, New York; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1923, The Noonday Club is a community
service-based organization composed of local business people and
conscientious citizens who sponsor events and fundraisers to support
local charities, seniors and students; and

WHEREAS, A vital member of the Ellenville/Wawarsing, New York,
community his entire life, Ron Matthews is well-known for his generous
spirit and helping nature; and

WHEREAS, As the pharmacist behind the counter at Matthews Pharmacy,
Ron Matthews has helped the members of the Ellenville/Wawarsing
community for over 60 years; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Ron Matthews is a devoted
volunteer for numerous organizations including the Ellenville Revolving
Loan Committee, the Revisit Ellenville Day Committee (now the Annual
Blueberry Festival) and the Ellenville Reformed Church Soup Kitchen; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Ron Matthews was the driving force behind the
fund-raising efforts to purchase and install holiday lights throughout
the Town of Wawarsing; he also delivers holiday meals to homebound
senior citizens and has been an active participant of the annual
Halloween Mardi Gras; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Ron Matthews has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife of 58 years, Doris;
their two sons, Randy (Teri) and Ray (Aileen); their daughter, Denise
(Tom); and their five grandchildren, Ryan, Jennifer (Mark), Daniel
(Anna), Nicole (Chris) and Megan, who have all shown him love and
support and rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Ron Matthews upon the occasion of being named the 2016 Citizen
of the Year by The Noonday Club; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ron Matthews.
