HONORING Anne Andrianos upon the occasion of her
designation as the recipient of the 2016 Daniel W.
Casey Library Advocacy Award by the New York Library
Association

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge and
honor those dedicated and talented individuals within our midst, who
have and continue to inspire our communities through their tireless
efforts and their outstanding professional and personal accomplishments;
and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accordance with
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Anne Andrianos upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2016 Daniel W. Casey Library Advocacy Award by the New York Library
Association, celebrated at a presentation on November 7, 2016, at the
Onondaga Free Library in Syracuse, New York; and

WHEREAS, Since 1993, the Daniel W. Casey Library Advocacy Award,
named after Daniel Casey, known as "Mr. Library" for his tireless
advocacy on behalf of libraries at international, national, state,
county and local levels, has been given annually to honor a volunteer,
member, or a group of the library community whose efforts have
contributed to the growth of libraries or Friends of Library
organizations; and

WHEREAS, Recipients of the Daniel W. Casey Library Advocacy Award
are chosen based on their participation with the New York Library
Association and their advocacy for themselves and the community as a
whole; and

WHEREAS, After an arduous year in 2014, the Friends of Onondaga Free
Library had a crisis in leadership that left the organization adrift
with the possibility of ceasing operations; under Anne Andrianos'
luminous leadership, the Friends of Onondaga Free Library has made a
dramatic rebound in both their creative activities and monetary gifts to
the library; recently they have created and sponsored an abundance of
new programming opportunities for patrons, such as a baking competition,
artist receptions, and a summer garden concert; and

WHEREAS, Anne Andrianos' innovative fund-raising ideas have lead the
Onondaga Friends group to significantly expand their efforts in
supporting the Onondaga Free Library, including an annual book sale, a
shamrock sale which coincides with Irish step dance performances, and a
spring geranium sale; and

WHEREAS, Anne Andrianos' energy and enthusiasm has attracted new
volunteers to the Onondaga Friends group and re-energized current
members; since she stepped up as President, Anne has created a new
section of the Friends of Onondaga Free Library called the
"Ambassadors," which provides an innovative way for community members to
become actively involved with their library and expand the outreach of
its programs and services; and


WHEREAS, Anne Andrianos' support, enthusiasm, and outstanding
leadership have been essential to the growth of the Friends of Onondaga
Free Library and to the local community; she stands as a positive role
model within her community due to her tireless efforts to inspire others
and create positive change; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all of the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Anne Andrianos upon the occasion of her designation as the
recipient of the 2016 Daniel W. Casey Library Advocacy Award by the New
York Library Association; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Anne Andrianos.
