HONORING Francine Goldstein upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the
highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New
York State Senate

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Francine
Goldstein upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of a Liberty
Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York
State Senate; and

WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS, AIDS Walk New York has inspired approximately 890,000
people to walk, and millions more to donate, raising nearly $150 million
in contributions to combat HIV and AIDS; the funds raised at the event
remain a vital lifeline sustaining the prevention, care and advocacy
programs Gay Men's Health Crisis (GMHC) provides for the thousands of
men, women and families affected by the disease in the tri-state area;
and

WHEREAS, Francine Goldstein has been an active participant of AIDS
Walk New York for the past 28 years, raising thousands of dollars to
fight the virus that took the life of a dear friend; and

WHEREAS, After promising a friend she would do everything she could
to ensure no one else would have to suffer the way she did, Francine
Goldstein set out to raise funds for multiple local HIV/AIDS advocacy
programs and service organizations such as the GMHC; and

WHEREAS, Ever since she started on her first AIDS Walk, Francine
Goldstein has reached out to everyone she meets to tell them the story
of her friend, how much her story has affected her life and has pushed
her to help others; and

WHEREAS, For her years of dedicated service to this cause, so near
and dear to her heart, Francine Goldstein was the recipient of the 2016
Humanitarian of the Year Award by the Nassau County Legislature and a
2015 Proclamation by the New York City Council; and

WHEREAS, Individuals such as Francine Goldstein devoted to improving
the quality of life for others, enabling them to build lives of dignity
and self-worth are deserving of the highest praise and recognition; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Francine Goldstein upon the occasion of her designation as

recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Francine Goldstein.
