COMMEMORATING the inauguration of Minsun Kim,
distinguished citizen and President of the Korean
American Association of Greater New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
the people of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavors
serve to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Minsun Kim, a Korean American, was inaugurated for her
second term as President of the Korean American Association of Greater
New York on Monday, May 1, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Minsun Kim is the first woman president of the Korean
American Association of Greater New York in the organization's 50-year
history, and the first president of the Korean American Association of
Greater New York to be reelected for a second term in over 30 years; and

WHEREAS, Minsun Kim established the Museum of Korean American
Heritage in the Korean American Association of Greater New York
building; and

WHEREAS, Minsun Kim has also made significant contributions as a
businesswoman, philanthropist, and musician to the Long Island
community, where she currently lives; and

WHEREAS, Minsun Kim is Vice Chair of the Nassau County Human Rights
Commission, Commissioner of the Nassau County Asian American Economic
Advisory Commission, co-Chair of the Asian American Advisory Committee
of Nassau County, and advisory committee member of the National
Coalition for the Divided Families; and

WHEREAS, Minsun Kim fosters musical appreciation and talent as
President and co-founder of the Long Island Conservatory and the LISMA
Foundation and by establishing the LISMA International Music
Competition, which provides scholarships to over 1,100 students; and

WHEREAS, Minsun Kim is an established musician in her own right,
winning many awards and performing at esteemed institutions and events
including the Salzburg Summer Music Festival, the Tokyo Summer Music
Festival, and Madison Square Garden; and

WHEREAS, Minsun Kim has made incomparable contributions to
empowering and improving the well-being of nearly a quarter million
Korean American residents in the New York metropolitan area and remains
a source of inspiration and knowledge to all she has befriended,
educated, and mentored; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Minsun Kim, distinguished individual, talented musician,
and devoted member of her community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Minsun Kim.
