BY: Senator PARKER

COMMENDING the Flatbush Tenant Coalition upon the
occasion of hosting its Spring Fling on May 20, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that

organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Flatbush Tenant Coalition upon the occasion of hosting its

Community Center in Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Flatbush Tenant Coalition is a member-led group of more
than 65 active tenant associations in Flatbush, East Flatbush, and South
Crown Heights, Brooklyn, working collectively to build tenant power;
acting together, it advocates to improve the lives of tenants so
families have safe, decent, and affordable housing; and

WHEREAS, This vital organization also organizes and supports tenant
associations and develops tenant leaders, and educates tenants about
their rights and how to organize to make change; in addition, the
Flatbush Tenant Coalition takes united action in campaigns to strengthen
tenant rights in New York City and across the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Currently, the Flatbush Tenant Coalition represents

of color; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Flatbush Tenant Coalition has
diligently worked together to build tenant power, and helped to create a
more just and equitable society; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Flatbush Tenant Coalition upon the occasion of hosting its
Spring Fling on May 20, 2017; and be it further
