Senate Resolution No. 2243

COMMENDING St. Augustine's Episcopal Church upon
the occasion of hosting its 29th Spring Luncheon and
Scholarship Awards on May 21, 2017

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and

WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend St. Augustine's Episcopal Church upon the occasion of hosting
its 29th Spring Luncheon and Scholarship Awards on Sunday, May 21, 2017,
at Russo's on the Bay in Howard Beach, New York; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious event is an opportunity for honorees and
scholarship recipients to join in fellowship with the parishioners of
St. Augustine's Episcopal Church; and

WHEREAS, St. Augustine's Episcopal Church is a diverse, dynamic
Christian faith community in the Episcopal/Anglican tradition located in
the heart of East Flatbush, Brooklyn; and

WHEREAS, The Church strives to restore all people to unity with God
and each other in Christ by providing opportunities for new people to
enter into its community of faith, know and care about all individuals
in its parish, rediscover continually that everyone belongs to each
other and are one in Christ, develop and maintain a positive
relationship between its parish and the wider community, and welcome all
people and respect the dignity of every human being; and

WHEREAS, St. Augustine's Episcopal Church stands on the threshold of
tomorrow, prepared to meet the challenges of the coming decades while
retaining that spiritual resolve which characterizes its past; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend St. Augustine's Episcopal Church upon the occasion of hosting
its 29th Spring Luncheon and Scholarship Awards on May 21, 2017; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to St. Augustine's Episcopal Church.
