HONORING Raghav Khurana upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2017 Youth of the
Year Award by the Hicksville Boys & Girls Club
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Raghav Khurana upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2017 Youth of the Year Award by the Hicksville Boys & Girls Club; and
WHEREAS, The Boys & Girls Club's highest honor, the Youth of the
Year Award, recognizes outstanding contributions to a club member's
family, school, and overall community, as well as their perseverance in
overcoming personal challenges and obstacles; these honorees are shining
examples and living proof that great futures start at Boys & Girls
Clubs; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Hicksville High School, Raghav Khurana joined
the Hicksville Boys & Girls Club in 2011; through the Club, he has
gained a much needed sense of comfort and security; by interacting with
new people in a positive environment, he was able to open up to others,
build confidence, and form valued friendships; and
WHEREAS, Raghav Khurana has truly learned the value of helping
others; at the Hicksville Boys & Girls Club he is always available to
lend a helping hand, from tutoring younger students, to the Triple Play
Program, the Peer Counseling Program, and the open recreational lounge;
and
WHEREAS, As Director of the Triple Play Program, Raghav Khurana
proved to be an outstanding role model among his peers by providing them
with a full-filled experience of various sports activities; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Raghav Khurana has been instrumental in the
success of several fundraisers and community-based events including
yearly food drives, National Kids Day, and the Open Gym Program; and
WHEREAS, Realizing the importance of a good education, Raghav
Khurana was a faithful participant of the Power Hour, a program
dedicated to allocating an organized schedule to focus on school work;
and
WHEREAS, When he is not at school or the Club, Raghav Khurana enjoys
sports and maintaining his health through exercise and good eating
habits; he is an avid football fan and talented player for his high
school football team; he also serves as a referee at the Under Armour
Flag Football Little League; and
WHEREAS, After graduation, Raghav Khurana plans to study computer
science at Nassau County Community College; one day he hopes to have a
successful career in business and finance; and
WHEREAS, Raghav Khurana loves being a vital part of the Boys & Girls
Club of Hicksville; he is well-liked by his peers and knows that his
teachers are always available to listen to his concerns, help him with
his problems, and encourage his happy moments and aspirations; and
WHEREAS, Through his active involvement in the community and his
sincere dedication to others, Raghav Khurana has become an exceptional
role model for others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth
of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Raghav Khurana upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2017 Youth of the Year Award by the Hicksville Boys & Girls Club;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Raghav Khurana.
