HONORING Kate Laundau upon the occasion of being
inducted into the first class of the Section IX
Track and Field Hall of Fame on May 20, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Kate Laundau upon the occasion of being inducted into the first class of
the Section IX Track and Field Hall of Fame to be celebrated at a
Ceremony on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Kuhl's Highland House in
Middletown, New York; and

WHEREAS, A 1994 graduate of Tri-Valley High School, Kate Laundau is
a five-time individual Section IX Class C Champion in cross country from
1988-1993; currently, she continues to hold the fourth fastest time at
the Bear Mountain Cross Country Invitational Meet held in 1993; and

WHEREAS, In that same year, Kate Laundau set the Section IX record
in the 10,000M race at a time of 35:25.78; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, she attended Georgetown University where
she continued her celebrated career; a five-time All-American, she
finished second in the 10,000M race at the 1996 NCAA Division I Outdoor
Championships, and third in the 5,000M at the 1997 NCAA Indoor
Championships; and

WHEREAS, An elite United States marathon runner, Kate Laundau won
the 2016 Portland Marathon; and

WHEREAS, Kate Laundau has been an inspiration to countless track and
field fans, as well as to the community-at-large, and accordingly merits
recognition and applause for her tremendous passion for the sport and
competitive spirit; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such outstanding athletic accomplishments are brought to
our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Kate Laundau upon the occasion of being inducted into the
first class of the Section IX Track and Field Hall of Fame on May 20,
2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Kate Laundau.
