COMMEMORATING the AIDS Walk New York, an
extraordinary event in the fight against AIDS and
HIV

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge exceptional
events that enrich the lives of the people of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor AIDS Walk
New York, an extraordinary event in the fight against AIDS and HIV; and

WHEREAS, AIDS Walk New York is the largest single-day AIDS
fundraising event in the world; and

WHEREAS, In its 31 years, almost 890,000 people have walked in AIDS
Walk New York and millions have donated, raising nearly $150 million to
fight HIV and AIDS; and

WHEREAS, The funds raised go towards prevention, care, and advocacy
programs to combat this horrible disease; and

WHEREAS, In particular, funds raised benefit the Gay Men's Health
Crisis (GMHC) which offers critical and often lifesaving services to
thousands of people and their families affected by AIDS and HIV; and

WHEREAS, AIDS Walk New York also helps support numerous other
organizations in the fight against this terrible disease; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the AIDS Walk New York as it raises awareness and funds to
help combat HIV and AIDS; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Gay Men's Health Crisis.
