COMMENDING Walter L. Sperling, MD upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition
by the Board of Trustees of Ellenville Regional
Hospital and the Ellenville Regional Hospital
Foundation on October 14, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals who distinguished themselves
through their exemplary careers, accomplishments, and purposeful lives
of service to their community and their profession; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Walter L.
Sperling, MD upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Board of Trustees of Ellenville Regional Hospital and
the Ellenville Regional Hospital Foundation to be celebrated at its
Annual Gala on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at White Wolf Restaurant and
Lounge in Napanoch, New York; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Walter L. Sperling graduated from Northwestern Medical
School and his internship and residency from Robert Packer Hospital in
Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, From 1964-1966, Dr. Walter L. Sperling proudly served his
country as a Captain and Chief of Medicine at Tyndall Air Force Base in
Panama City, Florida; after his discharge in 1966, he joined the staff
at Ellenville Medical Group, an established multi-specialty practice;
and
WHEREAS, Upon the opening of the Ellenville Regional Hospital, Dr.
Walter L. Sperling held the esteemed title of Chief of Medicine for
approximately 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Walter L. Sperling also owned a community medical
practice where he served as an internist for 45 years; in 2010, he sold
the practice to The Institute for Family Health; shortly thereafter, he
joined as a Physician and later taught 3rd and 4th year medical
students; and
WHEREAS, In August of 2011, this dynamic and hardworking man became
the Medical Director at Ellenville Regional Hospital; and
WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to Ellenville
Hospital and his community, Dr. Walter L. Sperling was the recipient of
numerous awards and accolades including the 2014 Dr. Gary Ogden Rural
Health Practitioner Award by the New York State Association for Rural
Health, and recognition by the Ellenville Chapter of the NAACP; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to helping his fellow veterans, Dr. Walter L.
Sperling served as Commander of the Jewish War Veterans, Ellenville
Post; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Dr. Walter L. Sperling
displayed throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhanced the quality of life in their community and displayed a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned recognition and applause; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Walter L. Sperling, MD upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the Board of Trustees of Ellenville Regional
Hospital and the Ellenville Regional Hospital Foundation; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Walter L. Sperling.
