HONORING the West Point-Highland Falls Rotary Club
upon the occasion of its designation as recipient
of the 2017 Best Friend Award by the Friends of the
Highland Falls Library on June 3, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
the West Point-Highland Falls Rotary Club upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the 2017 Best Friend Award by the Friends of
the Highland Falls Library, to be celebrated at its Spring Gala and
Awards Reception, on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the Highland Falls
Library, in Highland Falls, New York; and
WHEREAS, This prestigious award is bestowed upon the West
Point-Highland Falls Rotary Club for its steadfast and unremitting
commitment to its community and the Highland Falls Library; the Club
remains true to its motto of Service Above Self; and
WHEREAS, Rotary is an organization of business and professional
leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage
high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and
peace in the world; in more than 160 countries worldwide, approximately
1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 30,000 Rotary clubs; and
WHEREAS, Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the
community's business and professional men and women; the world's Rotary
clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all
cultures, races, and creeds; and
WHEREAS, The main objective of Rotary is service - in the community,
in the workplace, and throughout the world; Rotarians develop community
service projects which address many of today's most critical issues,
such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment,
illiteracy, and violence; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization also supports programs for youth,
educational opportunities and international exchanges for students,
teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career
development; and
WHEREAS, Although Rotary clubs develop autonomous service programs,
all Rotarians worldwide are united in a campaign for the global
eradication of polio; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the West Point-Highland Falls Rotary Club upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the 2017 Best Friend Award by the Friends of
the Highland Falls Library on June 3, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the West Point-Highland Falls Rotary Club.
