COMMENDING Dr. Karen Siris upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by Childs
Abuse Prevention Services on June 5, 2017
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Dr. Karen Siris upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by Childs Abuse Prevention Services, to be celebrated on
Monday, June 5, 2017, at the Tam O'Shanter Club in Brookville, New York;
and
WHEREAS, For over 35 years, Child Abuse Prevention Services (CAPS)
has been Long Island's leading organization dedicated to the prevention
of bullying and child abuse; each year, this vital group honors an
individual who has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to improving
the lives of children; Dr. Karen Siris is one such individual; and
WHEREAS, The former principal of the W.S. Boardman Elementary School
in Oceanside, New York, and a current Adjunct Professor of Educational
Leadership at Adelphi University, Dr. Karen Siris is best known as the
co-founder of School Leaders for Change, an organization committed to
creating important professional development for innovative school
leaders and teachers; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, Dr. Karen Siris has been instrumental in
bringing professional development to Long Island through the School
Administrators Association of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Karen Siris has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to her community, Dr. Karen Siris serves on the
Executive Board of Directors for CAPS and has served on the New York
State Safe Schools Task Force as well as the Dignity for All Students
Act Task Force, which created the regulations for New York State's
anti-bullying law; and
WHEREAS, A local, statewide, and national presenter on bullying
prevention and intervention and an approved presenter for the state
certification workshop on the prevention of bulling and harassment, Dr.
Karen Siris is also the co-author of Stand Up!, a bullying prevention
children's book, and numerous published articles pertaining to positive
school culture and bullying prevention; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. Karen Siris has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Dr. Karen Siris has displayed
throughout her life; now, therefore, be it
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Karen Siris upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by Childs Abuse Prevention Services on June 5, 2017; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Karen Siris.
