CONGRATULATING Trainer Chad C. Brown upon the
occasion of Cloud Computing winning the 142nd
Preakness Stakes on May 20, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals who have distinguished themselves
through their exemplary careers, accomplishments, and purposeful lives
of service to their community and their profession; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Trainer Chad C. Brown upon the occasion of Cloud Computing
winning the 142nd Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Pimlico
Park in Baltimore, Maryland; and
WHEREAS, The 13-1 long shot Cloud Computing caught Classic Empire in
the final strides of the wet and muddy track to win the historic race by
a head; and
WHEREAS, As a record crowd of 140,327 horse fans watched in
breathless anticipation, Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming and
Classic Empire dueled for most of the race before Classic Empire stuck
his nose in front midway on the far turn; it looked as if Classic Empire
would go on to win, however, Cloud Computing ran him down on the
outside; and
WHEREAS, Ridden by jockey, Javier Castellano, Cloud Computing ran 1
3/16 miles in a time of 1:55.98, making it the dark brown colt's second
career victory; this monumental win also marked Chad C. Brown's first
victory in a Triple Crown race; and
WHEREAS, Chad C. Brown's well-planned strategy of racing his fresh
horse paid off handsomely in the end, paying $28.80, $8.60 and $6; and
WHEREAS, Born in Mechanicville, New York, on December 18, 1978, Chad
C. Brown is an American thoroughbred horse racing trainer known for his
expertise with both turf and dirt horses, fillies and mares; he became
interested in horses at an early age during family visits to nearby
Saratoga Race Course; and
WHEREAS, While in high school, Chad C. Brown worked with
Standardbreds at Saratoga Raceway; after graduation, he studied animal
science at Cornell University; and
WHEREAS, During his summers, Chad C. Brown worked for Hall of Fame
trainer, Shug McGaughey; after college, he remained with Shug until he
obtained an internship with veterinarian, Steve Allday; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, Chad C. Brown has
trained several Eclipse Award winners including: Stacelita, Big Blue
Kitten and Flintshire; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Terrill, and their
two daughters, Ava and Andi, all of whom have shown him love and support
and rejoice in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Trainer Chad C. Brown upon the occasion of Cloud Computing
winning the 142nd Preakness Stakes on May 20, 2017, and to wish his much
success in all his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Chad C. Brown.
