HONORING Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School upon
the occasion of its 50th Anniversary

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging
significant milestones in the distinguished histories of its esteemed
institutions; and

WHEREAS, Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School will celebrate its 50th
Anniversary on June 16, 2017; the school will be open for visitors to
"Walk Through the Decades" through student projects, enjoy student
performances, and view old yearbooks; and

WHEREAS, In 1941, Abram Broner purchased the former Chick's KGK
Camp; the property became known as Copper Beech Camp or Copper Beech
Vacationland due to the fact that it contained many Beech trees; and

WHEREAS, Upon his death, Abram Broner's daughters sold the property
to the Lakeland Central School District; the District soon built Copper
Beech Middle School on the site; and

WHEREAS, Copper Beech Middle School was first opened for the
1966-1967 school year; it served seventh and eighth grade students
living in Shrub Oak, Yorktown, and a portion of Mohegan Lake; and

WHEREAS, In September of 1987, Lakeland Middle School and Copper
Beech Middle School combined to form Lakeland Copper Beech Middle
School; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School serves 1,500
students in grades six through eight; and

WHEREAS, Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School has a long and
distinguished history of exceptional academics and extracurricular
activities; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School upon its 50th Anniversary; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Robert S. Bergmann, Principal, Marc Casey, Grade 6
Assistant Principal, Donna Bolner, Grade 7 Assistant Principal, and
Frank Ruolo, Grade 8 Assistant Principal.
