MOURNING the death of Robert M. Horan, Jr.,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Robert "Bob" Horan, Jr. of Niskayuna, New York, died on
Monday, July 4, 2016, at the age of 52; and

WHEREAS, Born on October 26, 1963, in Berea, Ohio, Robert M. Horan,
Jr. was the loving son of Robert and Carol Horan of Queensbury, New
York; and

WHEREAS, He was a graduate of Shenendehowa High School, SUNY Oswego
and The College of St. Rose; and

WHEREAS, Robert M. Horan, Jr. distinguished himself in his
profession and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to
the welfare of his community; and

WHEREAS, For the past six years, this well-respected educator served
as Superintendent of the Schodack Central School District; his previous
posts include: Principal at Maple Hill High School for five years,
Department Administrator at Shenendehowa High School for three years,
Technology Instructor at Mohonasen High School for 16 years, and Adjunct
Professor at The College of St. Rose; and

WHEREAS, Robert M. Horan, Jr.'s commitment to excellence, and his
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise,
including charitable and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, He was a board member of the Rensselaer County Chamber of
Commerce and Legislative Chairman for Questar III BOCES; in addition, he
was a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Rotary Club; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his in-laws, William and Elizabeth Halpin,
Robert M. Horan, Jr. is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years,
Margery Halpin Horan; his children, Patricia H. Horan, Robert M. Horan
III, and Thomas W. Horan, and Lydia Cappadonia; and two sisters,
Christine (James) Cassidy and Cathleen Schoeppler, as well as many
nieces and nephews; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Robert M. Horan, Jr. leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Robert M. Horan, Jr., distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further


RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Robert M. Horan, Jr.
