HONORING Suzanne McKenney upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Yellow Rose Award by
the Zonta Club of Hamburg and Orchard Park on March
8, 2017

WHEREAS, From time to time, this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Suzanne McKenney upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Yellow Rose Award by the Zonta Club of Hamburg and Orchard Park,
celebrated on Wednesday, March 8, 2017; and

WHEREAS, New York State is home to countless women, strong and
colorful threads vital to the fabric of our rich heritage, who have and
continue to contribute to the advancement of our culture through their
traditional and non-traditional roles in society; and

WHEREAS, The Zonta Club, an international organization of
professional women who work to advance the status of women through
service and advocacy, sets aside March 8th of each year as Yellow Rose
Day, to honor the accomplishments of women worldwide; the Zonta Club of
Hamburg and Orchard Park takes this opportunity to honor women whose
courage, determination and dedication have made a difference in the
lives of others within the community and beyond; and

WHEREAS, Suzanne McKenney, is a founding member of Character Council
of Western New York, an organization which strives to Create a Culture
of Character; this vital organization truly believes that excellence in
character is the principal foundation for enduring personal, familial,
and organizational success; and

WHEREAS, The Character Council of Western New York diligently works
to enrich the understanding of the benefits of good character, and to
facilitate the continual development of character excellence for
citizens throughout the communities of Western New York by modeling
character excellence in its personal and professional interactions;
building awareness and understanding of the importance of personal
character for sustainable success; being a catalyst that draws the
entire community into a process that develops a community of character;
providing training, resources, and support for character development
initiatives within each community sector; collaborating with existing
community resources and facilitating partnerships to enhance character
visibility and strengthen character development opportunities; and
acknowledging people and/or organizations which demonstrate character
excellence; and

WHEREAS, In addition to her valuable work with Character Council of
Western New York, Suzanne McKenney serves as a mentor/coach of CITRS, a

non-profit organization which partners with schools and other
organizations to implement character initiatives to enhance lives; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Suzanne McKenney upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Yellow Rose Award by the Zonta Club of Hamburg and Orchard Park;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Suzanne McKenney.
