COMMENDING Amodeo Brothers Sunoco upon the
occasion of celebrating its 70th Anniversary
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
those small businesses within the State of New York which contribute to
the economic health and vitality of the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Amodeo Brothers Sunoco upon the occasion of celebrating its 70th
Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, For 70 years, Amodeo Brothers Sunoco, of Marlboro, New
York, has served its customers with an exceptional level of industry and
excellence that is second to none; and
WHEREAS, Located in Ulster County, Amodeo Brothers Sunoco is one of
the only businesses in the State of New York to be operated at the same
location by a single family for 70 years; and
WHEREAS, Established on April 17, 1947, by John Amodeo, Sr. and his
brother, Thomas, Amodeo Brothers Sunoco is presently run by John Amodeo,
Jr., who spent much of his childhood at the station, and his
brother-in-law, Stephen Adamshick; and
WHEREAS, John Amodeo, Sr. and Thomas Amodeo were born in Monteforte
Irpino in the province of Avellino, Italy, and immigrated to the United
States when they were young boys; and
WHEREAS, Upon opening the service station, John and Thomas
struggled, but overcame much adversity through their steadfast hard work
and dedication, making Amodeo Brothers Sunoco a permanent fixture and a
valued business in the community; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to the company, John Amodeo, Jr.,
affectionately known as Duke, learned the automotive trade from his
father who had him watch how things were done at the station; and
WHEREAS, Stephen Adamshick began working at Amodeo Brothers Sunoco
part-time in 1972, while attending Marist College; after earning a
Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Finance, coupled
with a minor in Economics, he accepted an offer to help run the
business; and
WHEREAS, Small businesses such as Amodeo Brothers Sunoco exert a
strong, positive influence on the communities they serve and are a
crucial element in the economy of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Amodeo Brothers Sunoco remains a family enterprise; current
owners John Amodeo, Jr. and Stephen Adamshick, as well as their loyal
and dedicated employees, proudly continue the tradition of excellent
service that has made this company a success for the past seven decades;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
businesses of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Amodeo Brothers Sunoco upon the occasion of celebrating its 70th
Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to John Amodeo, Jr. and Stephen Adamshick, Owners, Amodeo
Brothers Sunoco, Marlboro, New York.
