COMMENDING the Village of Warwick upon the
occasion of celebrating its 150th Anniversary
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
commemorate the distinguished histories of the communities which
comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Village of Warwick upon the occasion of celebrating its
150th Anniversary, celebrated at a Parade and Ceremony on Founder's Day,
Saturday, April 15, 2017, in the Village of Warwick; and
WHEREAS, The Founder's Day parade was led by a VFW Color Guard, who
was immediately followed by Mayor Michael Neward and Kid Mayor Danny
Alquezada Madero, both of whom were dressed in nineteenth century
attire; and
WHEREAS, During the event, guest speakers Village Historian Jean
Beattie May and Town Historian Dr. Richard Hull gave presentations about
interesting events which occurred throughout Warwick's storied history;
and
WHEREAS, Although the area has been occupied by humans for at least
12,000 years, it was not until 1867 that the Village of Warwick had a
large enough population to be incorporated; at this point, the Village
of Warwick started its own government, library, water works and
"firemanic company"; and
WHEREAS, Shortly thereafter, many churches and the Warwick Savings
Bank and the area's largest school, the Warwick Institute were
established in the Village of Warwick; the Village's streets quickly
became the hub of commerce and social gatherings that it is today; and
WHEREAS, In 1967, the Village of Warwick celebrated its 100th
Anniversary, marked by a myriad of events including a pageant play, a
beard and mustache contest, costumes and the burying of a time capsule
in Memorial Park; and
WHEREAS, During its Sesquicentennial Anniversary, the Village of
Warwick dug up its 50-year-old time capsule, and replaced it with a
modern one for the next milestone anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Remaining fruitful over the ebb and flow of decades of
growth and change, the Village of Warwick continues its commitment to
enhancing the quality of life of its citizens, ensuring a positive
business, institutional and educational climate, and providing all
essential services; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Village of Warwick upon the occasion of celebrating its
150th Anniversary, recognizing the significance of the role it continues
to play in the life of the community of the State of New York; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Village of Warwick.
