HONORING Matthew Guattery upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Orange
County Interscholastic Athletic Association as a
2017 Senior Scholar-Athlete

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, to honor the achievements of its
young citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and
accomplishments exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great
State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Matthew
Guattery upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by
the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association as a 2017 Senior
Scholar-Athlete; this momentous occasion was celebrated with a Breakfast
on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Kuhl's Highland House, Middletown, New
York; and

WHEREAS, Academically and athletically, Matthew Guattery has
distinguished himself as a young man of superlative ability, talent, and
maturity, establishing standards of excellence and achievement,
purposefulness of life, and responsibility rarely achieved in youthful
years; and

WHEREAS, A student at Middletown High School, Matthew Guattery has a
100.28 GPA; he is a member of the National Honor Society and Youth in
Government; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Guattery is also a participant of the indoor track,
as well as the team captain for the cross country and lacrosse teams;
and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Matthew Guattery gives
tirelessly of his time and energies volunteering at various National
Honor Society and Boy Scouts of America activities; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Guattery plans to attend Cornell University or
Boston University this fall; and

WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for his classmates, Matthew
Guattery has brought honor to his family, school, and community; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Guattery may stand with pride in his achievements,
experiencing the satisfaction of his labors and the joy of his
accomplishments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as he
continues his education; and

WHEREAS, Matthew Guattery represents the potential inherent in our
most precious resource, our youth; this Legislative Body is pleased to
honor this young man, recognizing his achievements and the promise of
his future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Matthew Guattery upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association as
a 2017 Senior Scholar-Athlete, and to wish him well in his future
endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Matthew Guattery.
