COMMEMORATING the 150th Anniversary of St. Peter's
Lutheran Church on June 11, 2017

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and

WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions who have contributed to the ethical and
spiritual values of their communities; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 150th Anniversary of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, to be
feted at a Celebration on Sunday, June 11, 2017, in Greenport, New York;
and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, St. Peter's Lutheran Church has been
committed to sharing the gospel and providing for the greater needs of
its neighbors within the Village of Greenport and its surrounding North
Fork community; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1866, St. Peter's Lutheran Church is the
oldest Lutheran Church in Suffolk County, New York; from post-Civil War
days to tumultuous challenges of the present day, this house of worship
has been a beacon of light shining on the path of what is possible and
good; and

WHEREAS, Through talented, faithful and compassionate leaders and
members, St. Peter's Lutheran Church have worked together to meet the
challenges of its time; today, Reverend Garret M. Johnson serves
faithfully as the congregation's Pastor; during his esteemed tenure, he
has continually fostered the church's spiritual growth; and

WHEREAS, St. Peter's Lutheran Church stands on the threshold of
tomorrow, prepared to meet the challenges of the coming decades while
retaining that spiritual resolve which characterizes its past; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people in this Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 150th Anniversary of St. Peter's Lutheran Church on June
11, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Reverend Garret M. Johnson, Pastor, St. Peter's Lutheran
Church.
