CONGRATULATING Viola "Vi" Wells Wood Goodyear upon
the occasion of celebrating her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Nation and Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Birthday of Viola "Vi" Wells Wood Goodyear; and

WHEREAS, Viola Goodyear was born on July 5, 1917, in Shinglehouse,
Pennsylvania, to parents, Irvin and Della Wells; she attended
Shinglehouse High School; and

WHEREAS, Viola Goodyear began working in 1935 for the former Walter
Smith Furniture Store in Ceres, Pennsylvania, and she also was employed
at the Lunn Lumber Company in Wellsville; she assisted her husband in
their family business and when he was Postmaster in Allentown, New York;
she spent more than 20 years of her professional life as a Ticketing
Agent for the Wellsville/Olean Travel Service; and

WHEREAS, Viola was married to George Wood and together they are the
loving parents of Carlton and Jack; she later married George Goodyear,
becoming the doting parents of George, Teresa, and Betty; she has been
further blessed with 11 grandchildren, George, Jason, Andrew, Jonathan,
Sean, Mike, Marcy, Deborah, Teri, Jennifer, and Kelli, 10
great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; and

WHEREAS, Viola Goodyear's favorite pastimes include playing Bridge,
at which she is an accomplished player; she enjoyed traveling and loved
her one-time home in Melbourne, Florida; family reunions and gatherings
are especially important to her with this 100th Birthday being the most
important event of her lifetime; and

WHEREAS, Viola Goodyear was historically an unconditional care-taker
through the years for her siblings, parents and grandparents; she is the
oldest living member of her family and sees herself simply as a mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize and honor the lives of beloved citizens who have reached a
remarkable age and who have witnessed and celebrated the outstanding
innovations, cultural developments, and awesome achievements of this
country during the last century; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Viola "Vi" Wells Wood Goodyear upon the occasion of
celebrating her 100th Birthday and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Viola "Vi" Wells Wood Goodyear.
