CONGRATULATING Sister Jane Frances Pfisterer, OSF
upon the occasion of celebrating her 80th
Anniversary as a Sister of St. Francis of the
Neuman Communities
WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life
in this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the
faithful concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their
energies and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to bring full
recognition and just tribute to those individuals and organizations
which distinguish themselves through their unremitting commitment and
service to humanity; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Sister Jane Frances Pfisterer, OSF upon the occasion of
celebrating her 80th Anniversary as a Sister of St. Francis of the
Neuman Communities; and
WHEREAS, Sister Jane Frances Pfisterer entered the Sisterhood from
St. Joseph-St. Patrick Parish of Utica in 1936; and
WHEREAS, Growing up, Sister Jane Frances Pfisterer attended St.
Joseph School, where she was taught by the Franciscan sisters; she went
on to attend Utica Free Academy, leaving after her sophomore year to
enter the Sisters of St. Francis in Syracuse; she has been a member
since that time, receiving her habit and name in 1937; and
WHEREAS, Sister Jane Frances Pfisterer earned both a bachelor's
degree and master's degree in education from The College of Saint Rose
in Albany, New York; she also has a permanent certification from New
York State in Language Arts; and
WHEREAS, During her years of ministry, Sister Jane Frances Pfisterer
taught kindergarten through 12th grade; in grades 9-12, she taught
history and language arts, religion, and anthropology; her teaching
assignments were located in Albany, Syracuse, Utica, Oswego, New Jersey
and Long Beach, California; and
WHEREAS, With a true passion for teaching, Sister Jane Frances
Pfisterer found great joy in watching the light of comprehension come
into the eyes of her students; her students knew they were loved and
they loved her back; and
WHEREAS, Sister Jane Frances Pfisterer received an outstanding
teacher award in Oswego, and served as superior at convents to which she
was assigned; and
WHEREAS, After an illustrious career in education which traversed 50
years, Sister Jane Frances Pfisterer ministered at St. Elizabeth
Hospital in Utica for 23 years; she also served as the Administrative
Receptionist for CEO Sister Rose Vincent Gleason, OSF; and
WHEREAS, Sister Jane Frances Pfisterer currently resides at the
Franciscan Villa in Syracuse, New York; and
WHEREAS, Singular in distinction is Sister Jane Frances Pfisterer,
whose service to her church and her people, and her involvement in her
community mirror a commitment of compelling dimension; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Sister Jane Frances Pfisterer, OSF upon the occasion of
celebrating her 80th Anniversary as a Sister of St. Francis of the
Neuman Communities; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sister Jane Frances Pfisterer, OSF.
