COMMENDING Kurt Scheibe upon the occasion of his
retirement after 50 years of distinguished service
as a baseball umpire for Sullivan County
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
the significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed
residents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Kurt Scheibe upon the occasion of his retirement after 50 years
of distinguished service as a baseball umpire for Sullivan County; and
WHEREAS, This illustrious occasion was celebrated at a Final Game
between Tri-Valley and Liberty on Friday, May 12, 2017; upon the
completion of the game, Tri-Valley Central School Coach Phil Pompeii
presented Kurt Scheibe with an inscribed baseball which read, "Kurt
Scheibe, Thank you for fifty years of umpiring"; and
WHEREAS, A 1962 graduate of Liberty High School, Kurt Scheibe was an
active baseball player for four years and played town baseball for a
number of seasons in the Orange County League and the Downsville and
Delaware-Sullivan Leagues; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Kurt Scheibe was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems in his
official acts; and
WHEREAS, Kurt Scheibe received his official baseball umpires
certification in 1968, and was a charter member of the Sullivan County
Baseball Umpires Association, where he served as Vice President for
numerous years; and
WHEREAS, In addition to serving as a baseball umpire, Kurt Scheibe
was a postal carrier for more than 35 years, until he officially retired
on March 3, 1998; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as a baseball umpire, Kurt Scheibe served
with loyalty, honor and distinction; and
WHEREAS, For the past 50 years, Kurt Scheibe rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to Sullivan County, earning the
admiration, esteem and affection of the community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Kurt Scheibe upon the occasion of his retirement after 50 years
of distinguished service as a baseball umpire for Sullivan County; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Kurt Scheibe.
