HONORING William P. Wade posthumously upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this
country's freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peace-time, deserve a special salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor William P.
Wade posthumously upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New
York State Senate; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, William P. Wade was born to William J. and Julia M. Wade on
November 2, 1922, in Troy, New York; he attended St. Michael's in South
Troy, and Troy High School; and
WHEREAS, William P. Wade proudly served his country as a Radioman
Second Class aboard the USS SC-1319 in the United States Navy during
World War II; and
WHEREAS, For his courageous military service, William P. Wade was
awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 2 stars, the Asiatic
Pacific Ribbon with 3 stars, the American Theater Ribbon, the Victory
Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal; and
WHEREAS, On November 25, 1945, William P. Wade married the former
Bernice D. Walsh at St. Francis Church in Troy, New York; together, the
couple raised two children, Thomas W. Wade and Edward J. Wade; they were
later blessed with five grandchildren, Sheila, Kristin, William P. II,
Matthew and Timothy; and
WHEREAS, After his discharge on January 6, 1946, William P. Wade
returned to his hometown and worked for the New York Telephone Company;
he was elected to the position of Rensselaer County Commissioner of
Social Services in 1965, a title he held for two years; and
WHEREAS, From January 1, 1970, until his death at the age of 47, on
August 4, 1970, he served as the proprietor of Wade's Wine Shop; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his fellow veterans, William P. Wade was a
vital member of the American Legion; he also supported youth baseball,
and bowled on a league; and
WHEREAS, William P. Wade was a faithful congregant of St. Mary's
Church in East Greenbush, New York, and was a participant of the Holy
Name Society; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who gave their
lives for their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
William P. Wade demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor William P. Wade posthumously upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of William P. Wade.
