CONGRATULATING Shen Yun Performing Arts upon the
occasion of presenting its 5,000 years of Chinese
culture on stage January 11-15, 2017, at the David
Koch Theater, Lincoln Center
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor those
events of artistic significance which highlight the creative talents
that have contributed to the cultural enrichment of our communities and
our Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Shen Yun Performing Arts upon the occasion of presenting
its 5,000 years of Chinese culture on stage January 11-15, 2017, at the
David Koch Theater, Lincoln Center; and
WHEREAS, Shen Yun Performing Arts is the world's premier classical
Chinese dance and music company; it seeks to revive five millennia of
civilization, to breathe new life into traditional Chinese culture, and
to provide an experience of sublime beauty; and
WHEREAS, Established in New York by elite Chinese artists in 2006,
Shen Yun Performing Arts is the largest Chinese music and dance ensemble
in the world; and
WHEREAS, The world-class artistry of Shen Yun Performances embodies
the soul of 5,000 years of Chinese history and traditional culture,
which is rooted in belief of the divine, faith, the importance of
cultivating virtue, and transcendence to heavenly realms; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the company's repertoire is drawn from the
pages of history, classic legends, diverse ethnic traditions, and
universal themes; and
WHEREAS, Each year, Shen Yun unveils an all-new production, and
today, entering its 11th season, the company has toured in 30 countries
and more than 100 cities, with approximately 1,900 performances; and
WHEREAS, Shen Yun Performing Arts will present this auspicious event
announcing the celebration of Chinese traditional culture, upholding the
values of its mission to bring forth the pure heart of ancient China to
be shared with the modern world; and
WHEREAS, The artistic freedom of the West has enabled the artists of
Shen Yun to bring ancient Chinese traditions to life on stage, and in
doing so, Shen Yun has become an international phenomenon to the delight
and praise of audiences worldwide; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body recognizes the importance of the
performing arts and film, which act to inspire, enlighten, and unify
people from all cultural backgrounds through the transcendent power of
human expression; and
WHEREAS, It is most fitting that we take time to celebrate the arts
of our Nation, to honor our artists, and to express our appreciation to
everyone who patronizes the arts; as we celebrate the arts, we celebrate
and give thanks to our American freedom, the only atmosphere in which
artists can truly create and in which art is truly the expression of the
soul; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Shen Yun Performing Arts upon the occasion of presenting
its 5,000 years of Chinese culture on stage at the David Koch Theater,
Lincoln Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Shen Yun Performing Arts.
