CONGRATULATING student-athlete Jenna Crean upon
the occasion of being named the 2017 Prep Talk
Player of the Year for Girls Indoor Track and Field
by The Buffalo News

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be
achieved only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success and
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize our
young individuals, who strive for athletic and academic excellence
through rigorous training and mental and physical discipline; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate student-athlete Jenna Crean upon the occasion of being
named the 2017 Prep Talk Player of the Year for Girls Indoor Track and
Field by The Buffalo News to be celebrated at its Awards Ceremony on
Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo Hotel and
Conference Center in Buffalo, New York; and

WHEREAS, An integral part of the Orchard Park High School Girls
Indoor Track and Field Team, sophomore Jenna Crean has displayed
tremendous hard work, outstanding athletic skill, and exemplary
sportsmanship to receive this prestigious honor; and

WHEREAS, Jenna Crean captured Section VI titles in both the 300 and
55-meter dash; she also anchored the Quakers' 4 x 200 relay team; and

WHEREAS, Jenna Crean placed second in the 300-meter dash during the
NYSPHSAA Championship meet this past winter; as a freshman, she won this
event; and

WHEREAS, This incredibly talented athlete holds the Section VI
record for fastest time in the 300-meter dash and holds school records
in the 55-meter dash; she is a strong contributor to the record-setting
efforts of the 4 x 200 relay team; and

WHEREAS, During the 2016 New York State Outdoor Track and Field
Championship, Jenna Crean placed in the top three in the 100, 200, and
400-meter events; she earned the distinction of fastest freshman in the
300-meter at the National Indoor Track and Field Championships; and

WHEREAS, When she is not at school or training, Jenna Crean enjoys
listening to music, watching movies, and spending time with her friends
and family; and

WHEREAS, In the future, Jenna Crean plans on studying bio-chemistry
at college; and

WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride
and accomplishment, and Jenna Crean has clearly made a contribution to
the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of her school; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate student-athlete Jenna Crean upon the occasion of being
named the 2017 Prep Talk Player of the Year for Girls Indoor Track and
Field by The Buffalo News, and to wish her continued success in all her
future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jenna Crean.
