HONORING Laurie Slawson upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Educator of the Year
Award by the Lackawanna City Court

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and
character whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Laurie Slawson upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Educator of the Year Award by the Lackawanna City Court; and

WHEREAS, Laurie Slawson received this prestigious honor for her
steadfast and unremitting commitment to the residents of Lackawanna, New
York; and

WHEREAS, Through classes held at Lackawanna City Hall in partnership
with Erie Community College Pathways to Success Department, Maryvale
Adult Education Division and Lackawanna City Court, Laurie Slawson has
helped more than 50 students earn their high-school equivalency diploma
and their dignity; and

WHEREAS, In 1996, this vital collaboration was formed by Lackawanna
City Court Chief Judge Frederic J. Marrano and Erie County Community
College Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs, Richard C.
Washousky, to allow more accessible education opportunities to
individuals involved in the court system; and

WHEREAS, The Lackawanna program has the highest success rate of all
8th Judicial Courts in both Erie and Niagara counties; and

WHEREAS, Educators like Laurie Slawson provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of people
in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their future
years; and

WHEREAS, Laurie Slawson has clearly had an enduring impact on the
students of the Lackawanna program and the community at large, and
accordingly merits recognition and applause for many impressive years of
dedication to others; and

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those individuals who work to support our proud tradition of
education by providing their skills and talents to our community
education programs; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Laurie Slawson upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Educator of the Year Award by the Lackawanna City Court; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Laurie Slawson.
