HONORING Barry D. Walston upon the occasion of
being named a Man of Valor by the Frank Chapman
Memorial Institute, Inc. on June 17, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens who would devote their life's work
and purpose to community service, contributing to the welfare of the
citizens of their communities and this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Barry D. Walston upon the occasion of being named a Man of Valor by the
Frank Chapman Memorial Institute, Inc., to be recognized at its 9th
Annual Men of Valor Celebration on Saturday, June 17, 2017, at the
Ramada Plaza Hotel, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Barry D. Walston is being honored with this auspicious
award in recognition of his trailblazing efforts to make a difference
within the local community; and
WHEREAS, Hailing from North Carolina, Barry D. Walston came to
Albany, New York, to attend SUNY Albany where he earned both his
bachelor's degree and his Masters of Social Work from its School of
Social Welfare; and
WHEREAS, Barry D. Walston currently serves as a manager in the New
York State Department of Health AIDS Institute in the Bureau Division of
HIV and the Division of HIV Prevention; and
WHEREAS, Prior to serving in this esteemed capacity, Barry D.
Walston was the Director of the Whitney M. Young Methadone Maintenance
Treatment Program located in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to human
services and supporting programs which service at-risk populations,
Barry D. Walston has served as President of the Albany Affiliate Black
Child Development Institute, President of Literacy NY of the Greater
Capital Region, and as Grants Chair of the Albany Fund Education; and
WHEREAS, Barry D. Walston is truly passionate about youth
development and mentoring programs; he tirelessly supports local youth
within the Albany City School District to reach their fullest potential;
in addition, he is an active member of Wilborn Temple First Church of
God in Christ; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Barry D. Walston has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Barry D. Walston, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Barry D. Walston upon the occasion of being named a Man of Valor
by the Frank Chapman Memorial Institute, Inc. on June 17, 2017; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Barry D. Walston.
