COMMENDING Nancy Zimpher, Ph.D. on her
distinguished service as the State University of New
York Chancellor

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed
residents of this noble Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Nancy Zimpher, Ph.D. on her eight years of distinguished service
as the 12th Chancellor of the State University of New York, the first
woman to hold this venerable position; and

WHEREAS, Since 2009, Nancy Zimpher has served as Chancellor of the
State University of New York, the largest comprehensive university
system in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Zimpher has been an innovative leader, creating a
diverse set of successful initiatives in several key areas including
research and innovation, energy, health care, global affairs, and the
education pipeline through her strategic plan; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, Nancy Zimpher has led the State University of
New York into many innovative initiatives which include shared services,
an expansion of online learning opportunities and cooperative education,
and championing reforms that provided broad access to high-quality
higher education while maximizing the system's economic revitalization
impact throughout New York State; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Zimpher has dedicated her life to public service
through her activity in numerous state and national education
organizations, including serving as chair of the Board of Governors of
the New York Academy of Sciences and National Association of System
Heads, and formerly leading the National Coalition of Urban Serving
Universities and chairing CEOS for Cities; and

WHEREAS, As co-founder of StriveTogether, a national network of
innovative systemic partnerships that holistically address challenges
across the education pipeline, Nancy Zimpher has changed lives and
communities across the United States; and

WHEREAS, Nancy Zimpher has served as an innovator and resource in
the topics of teacher education, urban education, academic leadership
and community-university partnerships through authoring and co-authoring
numerous books, monographs and academic journal articles; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate
blending of strength, leadership, expertise, and dedication as that
demonstrated by Nancy Zimpher; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Nancy Zimpher, Ph.D. on her eight years of distinguished service
as Chancellor of the State University of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Nancy Zimpher, Ph.D.
