HONORING the late Stanley Howard Mersand

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in celebrating the
lives of its esteemed residents; and

WHEREAS, Stanley Howard Mersand served his country with honor in the
United States Army as a forward observer and intelligence analyst in
Vietnam; he was honored with induction into the New York State Senate
Veterans Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, Stanley Howard Mersand was a beloved history teacher at
Carmel High School for more than 30 years; he continued to teach at
local colleges after his retirement; and

WHEREAS, Stanley Howard Mersand was active in the Village of
Pawling, having served on the Village Board and as Deputy Mayor; and

WHEREAS, Stanley Howard Mersand operated the Thomas E. Dewey Center
in Pawling, which exhibited memorabilia of his political mentor; and

WHEREAS, Stanley Howard Mersand also served as Dutchess County
Historian for many years; and

WHEREAS, Stanley Howard Mersand was instrumental in "The Heart
Gang," a band of patients from the Health Quest Heart Center in
Poughkeepsie; and

WHEREAS, Stanley Howard Mersand passed away peacefully at Regional
Hospice on May 26, 2017; he is survived by his loving wife, Christine,
son, Michael, daughter Rebecca, and dog, Scout; and

WHEREAS, Stanley Howard Mersand gave tirelessly to his community and
was an inspiration to many; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the late Stanley Howard Mersand; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Stanley Howard Mersand.
