COMMENDING Sandy LeVan upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the United
Tenants of Albany
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Sandy LeVan upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the United Tenants of Albany, to be celebrated at its
44th Annual Meeting on Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at the Westminster
Presbyterian Church in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, A Western New York native, Sandy LeVan started her
illustrious career at Citizen Action in Buffalo, New York in the spring
of 1991; after moving to Albany the following year, she continued
working for Citizen Action of New York as a door-to-door canvasser; she
also helped raise funds for National Healthcare; and
WHEREAS, Since the spring of 1995, Sandy LeVan has held the esteemed
title of Court Advocate for the United Tenants of Albany; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, Sandy LeVan assisted tenants in court,
trained new landlords in both Albany and Troy, New York, and facilitated
countless tenant association meetings and trainings to help tenants
advocate for themselves; and
WHEREAS, For over two decades, Sandy LeVan has served at-risk
homeless populations in housing court and has gone above and beyond for
all those she has worked with; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Sandy LeVan has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Sandy LeVan upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the United Tenants of Albany; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sandy LeVan.
