HONORING Elaine Houston upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by The College
of Saint Rose on June 15, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens who would devote their life's work
and purpose to community service, contributing to the welfare of the
citizens of their communities and this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Elaine Houston upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by The College of Saint Rose, to be celebrated at its "A
Community of Excellence" Luncheon on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at
Wolferts Roost Country Club, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, WNYT anchor and reporter Elaine Houston serves the Capital
Region and global community as an education advocate, blogger, author,
filmmaker, and community event moderator; and
WHEREAS, Elaine Houston earned a Bachelor's degree in Journalism
from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, a Master's degree in
International Women's Studies from SUNY Empire State, and an honorary
doctorate degree from The College of Saint Rose; and
WHEREAS, Known for her series, "Today's Women" and her blog, "She
Speaks 2 Me", Elaine Houston prioritizes investigating women's rights
issues and leading the discussion on best practices in the field of
education; and
WHEREAS, Elaine Houston has been recognized by Governor Andrew Cuomo
for her humanitarian efforts through awards in the categories of
Distinguished Community Service, African-Americans of Distinction, and
Women's Courage and Vision; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman has received numerous accolades,
including the MOM Prom Award from the ZONTA Club of Schenectady, the
Trefoil Award from the Hudson Valley Council of the Girl Scouts,
Journalist of the Year Award from Urban Voices Newspaper, Community
Service Award from the Chocolate Thunder Marching Band, NYS PTA Life
Member Award, Colonie Chamber of Commerce Women in Professions Award,
the Media Person of the Year from the Women's Press Club, and WNYT
Employee of the Month; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Elaine Houston, that future generations may know and appreciate her
admirable character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Elaine Houston upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by The College of Saint Rose on June 15, 2017; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Elaine Houston.
