COMMENDING the Society for Haitian Research upon
the occasion of hosting its 2017 Annual Gala
Celebration and paying tribute to this year's
honorees on June 11, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body, in keeping with
its time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those
organizations which foster ethnic pride and enhance the profile of
cultural diversity which strengthens the fabric of the communities of
New York State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Society for Haitian Research upon the occasion of hosting
its 2017 Annual Gala Celebration and to pay tribute to this year's
honorees on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Mirelle's Restaurant in Westbury,
New York; and

WHEREAS, This year's honorees include: Marie St. Fleur, CEO, St.
Fleur Communication; Nadege Fleurimond, Author/Entrepreneur, Fleurimond
Catering; Ariel Metayer, Hostess of Perspectives Hatiennes; Soraya
Dennis-Volcy, Founder, Dio Pou Viv; Marie E. Hyppolite, President,
Haitian American Nurses Association; Eric St. Louis, Leader,
Entrepreneur and Philanthropist; Henri Desrosiers, President, IHOM;
Vaina Louis, President of HOHS; Lesly Stinvil, President, Rescue One
Child; and Serge Renaud, President of NAAHP; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious event will also highlight cultural
performances by Felina Backer, Marc Mathelier, Buyu Ambroise and Edouard
Richard with the Unik Band Live; in addition, Marie Lynn Touissant,
Esq., President of Haitian to Fortify Haiti will serve as the Key Note
Speaker; and

WHEREAS, The Society for Haitian Research is a non-profit
organization founded in 1985, by a group of Haitian immigrants eager to
provide their community with educational, cultural and social services;
and

WHEREAS, The success of the Society for Haitian Research is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its staff, whose involvement is,
and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an
unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the institution and the community it serves;
and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Society for Haitian Research upon the occasion of hosting

its 2017 Annual Gala Celebration and to pay tribute to this year's
honorees on June 11, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the aforementioned honorees and to the Society for
Haitian Research.
