HONORING Anna Mary Bennett upon the occasion of
being inducted into the "Century Club" at Chapin
Home for the Aging
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate 101-year-old Anna Mary Bennett upon the occasion of being
inducted into the "Century Club" at Chapin Home for the Aging,
celebrated at its Second Annual Induction Ceremony on Friday, May 19,
2017, at the Chapin Home in Jamaica, New York; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1869 by Mrs. Edwin Chapin, Chapin Home for the
Aging has been serving the New York City/Long Island community at its
Jamaica location since 1912; currently, it is capable of assisting 220
adults in its Skilled Nursing Facility and can hold 50 registrants in
its Adult Day Health Care Center; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its esteemed history, Chapin Home has provided
the aging men and women who have come to live there a true home, where
they may find the serenity and security that have always been envisioned
as essential and appropriate to the latter part of life; and
WHEREAS, Anna Mary Bennett was born on April 12, 1916, in Flushing,
Queens, New York; she has been a member of the Chapin Home community
since April of 2011; and
WHEREAS, During her life, Anna Mary Bennett was a homemaker who
devoted herself to making a loving home for her family; during her free
time, she enjoyed spending time tending to her neighbors; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, their two sons,
six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who have all shown her
love and support and rejoice in her many accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, Anna Mary Bennett, with her zest for life, has inspired and
enhanced the lives of her family and friends with her friendship and
graciousness; she believed in the power of friendship and would say to
"... help others without expecting anything in return"; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, Anna Mary Bennett has enriched the lives of those around
her through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the
quiescent charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years;
and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Anna Mary Bennett upon the occasion of being inducted into
the "Century Club" at Chapin Home for the Aging; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Anna Mary Bennett.
