COMMEMORATING the 30th Anniversary of the Mark
DeGarmo Dance

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those organizations that substantially contribute to the
vitality and well-being of their communities and this great Empire
State; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
30th Anniversary of Mark DeGarmo Dance; and

WHEREAS, Mark DeGarmo Dance is a nonprofit organization founded in
1987 with a mission to educate underserved communities in New York City,
particularly in the Lower East Side, through arts and dance; and

WHEREAS, The founder, Mark DeGarmo, is an artist, scholar,
performer, choreographer and writer who has produced dozens of dances
and directed international tours in countries around the world; and

WHEREAS, Mark DeGarmo Dance works in multi-year partnerships with
Title I public schools in New York City to provide arts education,
including the Partnerships in Literacy through Dance and Creativity
program that integrates dance and writing into a school's curriculum;
and

WHEREAS, Mark DeGarmo Dance has brought arts and dance education and
programming to thousands of students; and

WHEREAS, Mark DeGarmo Dance has encouraged students in the Lower
East Side to look to dance as a way to deal with their emotions, help
students focus and concentrate, and boost their confidence; and

WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional organization and its contributions to the
communities it serves, fully confident that it will continue to serve as
it has thus far; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Mark DeGarmo Dance; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Mark DeGarmo Dance.
