COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of the Silver
Creek Festival of Grapes

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor and
commemorate the proud and distinguished histories of exceptional
organizations that are a part of the community and comprise the noble
body of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accordance with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Silver Creek Festival of Grapes;
and

WHEREAS, The Festival of Grapes was incorporated in 1967, and the
first annual festival was held the following year in 1968; the festival
was organized to promote and show support for the region's rich grape
growing industry; and

WHEREAS, Every third weekend in September, Silver Creek hosts a
Festival of Grapes to honor Concord grapes, featuring a parade, live
music, a midway, a wine tent, children's and adults' activities, and
grape stomping; and

WHEREAS, The Festival of Grapes has received national televised
recognition in the past; in 2008, the festival was featured on Good
Morning America; hosts from the show visited a farm to stomp grapes on
their trip across America, during the 2008 election season; and

WHEREAS, Each year the festival concludes with a grand parade,
featuring the Festival of Grapes royalty, local, and sometimes county
and state public officials, high school marching bands from regional
high schools, fire apparatus from Silver Creek, Sunset Bay, Forestville,
Hanover Center, Irving, Sheridan, Lake Erie Beach, Angola, and Fredonia;
and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize and honor milestones in the history of communities large and
small in this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Silver Creek Festival of Grapes;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the 50th Celebration Committee.
