Senate Resolution No. 2930

COMMENDING the WCA Home upon the occasion of
celebrating its 125th Anniversary
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize
those organizations that enhance the quality and character of life in
the communities across New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the WCA Home upon the occasion of celebrating its 125th
Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The WCA Home has been a leader in assisted living since
1892; in 1893, the Fredonia Chapter of the Women's Christian Association
purchased the Aaron O. Putnam House for the purpose of providing a home
for the elderly; and
WHEREAS, WCA Home's first President, Marion Morris, donated $4,000
to purchase the home on Temple Street, which equals $100,000 today; she
also personally paid for the heat and electric bills of the home in its
first year; and
WHEREAS, Marion Morris served as President until her passing in
1897; and
WHEREAS, Today, WCA Home provides a variety of services which
include: private rooms with call bells to the nurse's stations',
laundry and housekeeping; home-cooked meals; special diets for low salt
and sugar; transportation to and from doctors' offices, with an escort
from staff; medication delivery and distribution; and homecare services,
including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy,
medical supplies and equipment, adult day health care, and intermittent
nursing care; and
WHEREAS, Residents of WCA Home have an Open Door Policy, and social
activities are scheduled daily which include movies and popcorn,
television, Bingo, Pinochle, cooking, puzzles, painting and crafts,
singing, guest lectures, and music therapy; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those organizations that have achieved notable success in
their service to the residents and communities of this great Empire
State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the WCA Home upon the occasion of celebrating its 125th
Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the WCA Home.
