CONGRATULATING the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls
3,200 meter relay team upon the occasion of
capturing the 2017 New York State Public High School
Athletic Association Track and Field Championship
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive athletics can be
achieved only through rigorous practice, solid teamwork, and a dedicated
coaching staff; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
young individuals within our midst, who, by achieving outstanding
success in athletic competition, have inspired and brought great pride
to their school district and community; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical
development of the young people of this State, preparing them for the
future by instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a
standard of healthy living, imparting a desire for success, and by
developing a sense of fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
recognize and congratulate the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls 3,200 Meter
Relay Team upon the occasion of capturing the 2017 New York State Public
High School Athletic Association Track and Field Championship; and
WHEREAS, On Saturday, June 10, 2017, the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls
3,200 Meter Relay Team was victorious in the 2017 New York State Public
High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Track and Field
Championship, held at the Union-Endicott High School track in Endicott,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Freshman Phoebe White ran the first 800 meters of the
relay, clocking in at 2:13.568 minutes before passing the baton off to
junior Palmer Madsen, who ran a strong second leg of the relay, bringing
in the baton to the third runner; junior Sophie Ryan then handed the
baton to junior Rebecca Walters, who then ran the last 800 meters of the
relay, crossing the finish line for an outstanding time of 8:56.41; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent, and drive to win, displayed by the
Fayetteville-Manlius Girls 3,200 Meter Relay Team is in great part due
to the efforts of Coach Bill Aris, who is a well-respected leader for
his ability to develop potential into excellence; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the outstanding members of
the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls 3,200 Meter Relay Team proved to be an
unbeatable combination of talent, skill and dedication throughout the
entire season; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Fayetteville-Manlius Girls 3,200 Meter Relay Team upon
the occasion of capturing the 2017 New York State Public High School
Athletic Association Track and Field Championship; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Palmer Madsen, Sophie Ryan, Rebecca Walters, Phoebe
White, and Coach Bill Aris.
