COMMENDING the Brooklyn - Long Island Chapter of
Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. upon the occasion
of hosting its Annual Metro City Founders Day Event
on January 28, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend the Brooklyn - Long Island Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi
Fraternity, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its Annual Metro City
Founders Day Event on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at the Dazzler Hotel,
Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was founded on January 5,
1911, by 10 extraordinary young men at Indiana University, each of whom
strived to enrich the communities in which they lived, through
excellence in education, profession, and service; and
WHEREAS, These young men, having a strong foundation of brotherhood
and promoting achievement in every field of human endeavor, laid the
legacy for a dynamic organization which currently is comprised of over
250,000 members and 721 chapters, both domestic and international; and
WHEREAS, Across the globe, Kappa Alpha Psi has positively affected
millions of youth, families, and community organizations through
mentorship, community service and philanthropy; and
WHEREAS, In order to further share the image and concept of Kappa
Alpha Psi, the Brooklyn-Long Island Alumni was chartered on April 9,
1949; the original 15 members worked diligently to better their Brooklyn
community in a myriad of ways including annual Thanksgiving turkey
drives, toy drives, mentorship programs for youth, and, in conjunction
with local foundations, graciously donated significant funds to
inner-city high school students entering college; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
organizations which enhance the well-being and vitality of their
community and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence
certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Brooklyn - Long Island Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi
Fraternity, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its Annual Metro City
Founders Day Event; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Brooklyn - Long Island Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi
Fraternity, Inc.
