COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of New York
Korea Daily on June 9, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those illustrious journalistic entities which have diligently and
consistently, year after year, recorded the history of their communities
and brought local news and news of the larger world to their readers;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of New York Korea Daily, celebrated on
June 9, 2017; and
WHEREAS, This year will also mark the 50th Anniversary of the launch
of the new edifice, the renovation of Queens Long Island City Skillman
Avenue New York Korea Daily office building; and
WHEREAS, For over half a century, New York Korea Daily has grown
with Koreans as the backbone of its community; leading the way and
firmly rooted and positioned in Korean Society, it is one of the oldest,
most advanced and best-in-class newspapers; and
WHEREAS, Starting out as the New York City New York City Best
jeongronji Korea Times in 1967, New York Korea Daily printed its first
United States edition in 1969; at this time, the Korean population in
Southern California consisted of 10,000 individuals; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Korean residents living in the United States
stands at over two million and that number continues to grow daily; and
WHEREAS, Since its launch, New York Korea Daily has been a leader of
the minority press, sharing the Korean-American community's prosperity
and trials while becoming a pillar of the immigrant society; and
WHEREAS, In all 50 states, Korean-Americans have been working on
fulfilling their dreams, and for 50 years, New York Korea Daily
continues to be the eyes and voice of these hard-working citizens; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Publisher and C.E.O., Jae Min
Chang, New York Korea Daily continues to stand firm in its commitment to
providing the community with quality journalism, while displaying
dedication to community services; and
WHEREAS, New York Korea Daily contributes to making New York City a
more diverse and vibrant community by fulfilling the mission of the
press for the development of Korean American society; and
WHEREAS, Our newspapers provide a tremendous service to citizens
across the State of New York by keeping them informed about current
events; the democracy of our State and Nation is strengthened by a
responsible citizenry which is actively engaged in reading and kept
abreast of news affecting their lives; and
WHEREAS, As New York Korea Daily moves into the future, it carries
with it the legacy of a distinguished journalistic history and an
outstanding record of growth and achievement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of New York Korea Daily; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jae Min Chang, Publisher and C.E.O., New York Korea
Daily.
