Senate Resolution No. 3035

CONGRATULATING infielder Daniel Alfonzo upon the
occasion of being drafted in the 38th round of the
2017 Major League Baseball Draft by the New York
Mets

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those exemplary athletes who excel in professional athletics,
distinguishing themselves through notable achievements and representing
the great Empire State with pride and determination; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate infielder Daniel Alfonzo upon the occasion of being drafted
in the 38th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft by the New
York Mets; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Alfonzo, the son of Edgardo "Fonzie" Alfonzo, one of
the best hitting infielders the New York Mets have ever produced, plans
on following in his father's footsteps and will play ball for his
father's old team; and

WHEREAS, A star infielder of Bayside High School in Bayside, New
York, Daniel Alfonzo was instrumental in helping the Commodores capture
their first PSAL Championship in 2016; over 16 regular season games this
year, he had 24 hits in 51 at-bats, including three home runs; he never
hit lower than .471 in his four PSAL seasons; and

WHEREAS, Daniel Alfonzo was named Bayside High School's MVP each of
the last three seasons; during his sophomore year, he led the PSAL in
home runs; and

WHEREAS, After graduation, Daniel Alfonzo plans on attending Adelphi
University in the fall; and

WHEREAS, A gifted athlete, he has become a role model in the sport
of baseball; his character and achievements stand as a sterling example
and inspiration to all who would aspire to success; and

WHEREAS, The auspicious occasion of his selection in the 38th round
of the Major League Baseball Draft provides a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to honor Daniel Alfonzo for his extraordinary
athletic accomplishments which are a tribute to his skill, dedication
and commitment; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate infielder Daniel Alfonzo upon the occasion of being drafted
in the 38th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball Draft by the New
York Mets; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Daniel Alfonzo.
