HONORING Capital Area Against Mass Incarceration
upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of
the Organization of the Year Award by In Our Own
Voices, Inc. on July 16, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Capital Area Against Mass Incarceration upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the Organization of the Year Award by In Our
Own Voices, Inc., to be celebrated at its Annual Jazz in July event on
Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the Renaissance Hotel, in Albany, New York;
and
WHEREAS, In Our Own Voices, Inc. works for and ensures the physical,
mental, spiritual, political, cultural and economic survival and growth
of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people of color
communities; and
WHEREAS, Capital Area Against Mass Incarceration seeks to challenge
and dismantle mass incarceration and the systems of oppression which
sustain it through coordinated actions and by opening dialogue about
mass incarceration and the criminal injustice system in a way that is
empowering to all individuals and communities affected by them; and
WHEREAS, The process of dismantling mass incarceration can begin
only by bringing people together to share ideas, spread awareness and
take action; Capital Area Against Mass Incarceration seeks to do that
while building a strong and proactive local movement; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Capital Area Against Mass Incarceration upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the Organization of the Year Award by In Our
Own Voices, Inc.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Capital Area Against Mass Incarceration.
