HONORING Michael Lagace upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2017 Student of the
Year Award by the New York Association for
Continuing/Community Education

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of
those individuals who have distinguished themselves through their
exemplary pursuit of education as adults; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Michael Lagace upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2017 Student of the Year Award by the New York Association for
Continuing/Community Education, to be celebrated at its 34th Annual
Student of the Year Awards Ceremony on October 17-18, 2017, in Albany,
New York; and

WHEREAS, New York Association for Continuing/Community Education
(NYACCE) represents adult education professionals with its primary
mission in maintaining and expanding education and training
opportunities for undereducated adults throughout New York State; and

WHEREAS, NYACCE strives to ensure that the opportunities afforded to
these students continue to be available, and that additional adults in
need of these services continue to be served without barriers; it is
well understood individuals who continue their education have a greater
chance of improving their employment and quality of life; and

WHEREAS, Michael Lagace grew up in a discordant home in Latham, New
York; he often skipped school and left home at just 17 years old; and

WHEREAS, After working a variety of jobs, Michael Lagace faced many
personal setbacks before checking into a Residential Rehab program in
January of 2015; he successfully completed the program and transitioned
to a supported living situation, where he remained until September of
2016; and

WHEREAS, Determined to create a life of happiness, Mike Lagace
entered the HSE class at Capital South Campus Center in July of 2015;
during his studies, he overcame much adversity, including the death of
his mother, to pass the TASC test in April of 2017; and

WHEREAS, Through his life experiences, Mike Lagace has become a
resourceful problem solver, hard worker, and a steadfast advocate for
others; his work ethic, dedication and drive will ensure his continued
success in all his future endeavors; and

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend
individuals of outstanding character, who have shown initiative and
commitment toward constantly pursuing higher goals for themselves, and
acting as role models of leadership to be emulated by their peers; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Michael Lagace upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2017 Student of the Year Award by the New York Association for
Continuing/Community Education; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Michael Lagace.
