COMMENDING BRIC upon the occasion of its 40th
Anniversary to be observed at its Kick-Off
Celebration on April 16, 2018
WHEREAS, The arts, in whatever form, are central to human
expression; they are truly a universal language and their contribution
to the development of friendship and understanding among all peoples
cannot be underestimated; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those artistic organizations which have brought outstanding
entertainment and cultural enrichment to the citizens of the great State
of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend BRIC upon the occasion of its 40th Anniversary to be observed at
its Kick-Off Celebration on Monday, April 16, 2018; and
WHEREAS, BRIC is the leading provider of free cultural programming
in Brooklyn, New York, presenting and incubating work by artists and
media-makers who reflect the true diversity of New York City; its
dynamic programs reach hundreds of thousands of people each year; and
WHEREAS, Through the years, BRIC has vastly expanded its
programming, education initiatives and community engagement work; and
WHEREAS, The organization's award-winning main venue, BRIC Arts
Media House, offers a public media center, a major contemporary art
exhibition space, two performance spaces, a glass-walled TV studio, and
artist work spaces; and
WHEREAS, Some of BRIC's most acclaimed programs include the BRIC
Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival in Prospect Park, a renowned contemporary
art exhibition series, and two distinct media initiatives: Brooklyn Free
Speech, Brooklyn's Public Access initiative, and BRIC TV, a nonprofit
community TV channel and digital network; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, BRIC offers education and other vital programs
at BRIC House and throughout Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, In addition to making cultural programming genuinely
accessible, BRIC is dedicated to providing substantial support to
artists and media makers in their efforts to develop work and reach new
audiences; and
WHEREAS, Through presenting exceptional cultural experiences and
nurturing individual expression, BRIC has effectively portrayed New York
City's innate cultural richness and diversity for 40 years; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 40 year history, BRIC has
demonstrated continuous service to the residents and communities which
it serves; and
WHEREAS, The success of BRIC is in direct correlation to the efforts
of its staff, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized
by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an
uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the
organization and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, In light of its commitment, dedication and successful
efforts, it is the custom of this Legislative Body to extend its highest
commendation to BRIC of Brooklyn, New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend BRIC upon the occasion of celebrating its 40th Anniversary; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to BRIC, Brooklyn, New York.
