COMMENDING Leslie G. Schultz upon the occasion of
stepping down after 12 years of distinguished
service as President of BRIC
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Leslie G. Schultz upon the occasion of stepping down after 12
years of distinguished service as President of BRIC; she will officially
step down on Monday, June 25, 2018; and
WHEREAS, The leading provider of free cultural programming in
Brooklyn, New York, BRIC presents programs in contemporary art,
performing arts, and video that reflect the creativity and diversity of
its community; the organization also advances and nurtures emerging
voices and works-in-progress by local artists and media makers; and
WHEREAS, As President of BRIC for more than a decade, Leslie G.
Schultz has been instrumental in redirecting the organization to promote
access to arts and media for all, to provide meaningful support for
artists and media-makers who truly reflect the diversity of New York
City, and to amplify Brooklyn voices and Brooklyn stories; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Leslie G. Schultz, BRIC has
vastly expanded its programming, education initiatives and community
engagement work; she is also credited with the successful building of
its award-winning permanent home in Downtown Brooklyn, BRIC Arts Media
House; and
WHEREAS, This main venue, a 40,000-square-foot arts and media
complex, brings all of BRIC's year-round programs together under one
roof and attracts more than 100,000 visitors each day; and
WHEREAS, For the past 12 years, Leslie G. Schultz rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to BRIC, earning the admiration,
esteem and affection of her colleagues; and
WHEREAS, In her capacity as President, Leslie G. Schultz served with
loyalty, honor and distinction, and was governed by a keen sense of
duty, always showing a unique grasp of human problems in her official
acts; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate
blending of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that
demonstrated by Leslie G. Schultz over a lifetime of sacrifice and
dedication to others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Leslie G. Schultz upon the occasion of stepping down after 12
years of distinguished service as President of BRIC; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Leslie G. Schultz.
