Senate Resolution No. 3264

HONORING Kevin B. Mannix upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the
highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New
York State Senate
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Kevin B.
Mannix upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a Liberty
Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York
State Senate; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Kevin B. Mannix is dedicated to his community and has
supported numerous civic, educational and philanthropic organizations
throughout Staten Island including the Salvation Army, both the Girl and
Boy Scouts, food banks and pantries, the New York City Police and Fire
Departments, and the Staten Island Children's Museum for over 20 years;
and
WHEREAS, A proud owner of three ShopRite Supermarkets in Staten
Island, New York, Kevin B. Mannix began his distinguished career in the
industry at the young age of 16; through the years, he has held numerous
positions in various roles including Manager, Grocery Buyer, Director,
and Vice President; and
WHEREAS, Fighting hunger is an important mission for Kevin B.
Mannix; each week, his store donates bakery products to local food
pantries and disperses over 3,000 Thanksgiving turkeys each year to
those in need; and
WHEREAS, Kevin B. Mannix's community support facilitated Hurricane
Sandy relief efforts by opening his grocery stores both during and after
the storm, offering free food to accomodate victims of the devastating
hurricane; and
WHEREAS, Kevin B. Mannix is responsive to the unexpected and
immediate needs of those in his community; he contributed and helped to
raise a total of $50,000 for a young teenager, John Hudson Dilgen, who
has a rare skin disease which severely inhibits his ability to attend
school and participate in many activities; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kevin B. Mannix upon the occasion of his designation as a
recipient of a Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an
individual by the New York State Senate; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Kevin B. Mannix.
