CONGRATULATING AKT Combatives upon the occasion of
winning a Gold Medal at the World Jujitsu
Championships
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize
those individuals within in our community who have achieved outstanding
success in athletic competitions; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate AKT Combatives upon the occasion of winning a Gold Medal at
the World Jujitsu Championships; and
WHEREAS, AKT Combatives in Olean, New York, has competed nationally,
training around the country with their fellow Team USA members; the
World Council of Jujitsu Organization 2017 Tournament was held October
26-29, 2017, in Queensland, Australia, and was the first time Desmond
White, Charlie Love, Mike Hanchett, and Bryana Baer competed on the
world stage led by Barry Broughton, who was named to the Team USA
coaching staff, and is the owner of AKT Combatives Academy and Head
Coach of Team AKT; and
WHEREAS, The US National Jujitsu Team brought home both the Men's
and Women's Sport Jujitsu Team Gold Medals, and the Jujitsu
Demonstration Team Silver Medal, along with 15 gold medals, five silver
medals and four bronze in the individual competitions; all combatants
earned a gold as part of the team competition; and
WHEREAS, Bryana Baer earned a Silver Medal - Ladies Individual
Grappling; Silver Medal - Ladies Individual Sport Jujitsu; Silver Medal
- Jujitsu Demonstration Team; Gold Medal - Ladies Sport Jujitsu
Championship Team; Mike Hanchett earned a Silver Medal - Jujitsu
Demonstration Team, and a Gold Medal - Men's Sport Jujitsu Championship
Team; and
WHEREAS, Desmond White earned a Silver Medal - Men's Individual
Sport Jujitsu; Silver Medal - Jujitsu Demonstration Team; Gold Medal -
Men's Sport Jujitsu Championship Team; Charles Love earned a Gold Medal
- Men's Individual Sport Jujitsu; Silver Medal - Jujitsu Demonstration
Team; Gold Medal - Men's Sport Jujitsu Championship Team; and
WHEREAS, Barry Broughton earned a Silver Medal - Jujitsu
Demonstration Team (Competitor/Coach); Gold Medal - Men's Sport Jujitsu
Championship Team (Coach); Gold Medal - Women's Sport Jujitsu
Championship Team (Coach); and
WHEREAS, The outpouring of support from the Olean community in this
endeavor was outstanding and kept the team focused on this memorable
journey; their hard work and commitment to the art of Jujitsu, and their
dominant effort on the world stage is to never be forgotten and
continues to be celebrated; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate AKT Combatives upon the occasion of winning a Gold Medal at
the World Jujitsu Championships in Queensland, Australia; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Desmond White, Charlie Love, Mike Hanchett, Bryana Baer,
and Grandmaster Barry Broughton.
