CONGRATULATING United States Army veteran and
Special Forces medic Gary Michael Rose upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Medal of Honor

WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services who have served valiantly and
honorably in wars in which this country's freedom was at stake, as well
as in the preservation of peace in peace-time, deserve a special salute
from this Legislative Body; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate
United States Army veteran and Special Forces medic Gary Michael Rose
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Medal of Honor;
and

WHEREAS, The prestigious Medal of Honor is the nation's highest
military honor and enshrines recipients in the history of our Nation;
and

WHEREAS, Gary M. Rose was born in 1947, in Watertown, New York,
where he lived for the first two years of his life; his family then
moved to Southern California; and

WHEREAS, He proudly served his country as a member of the United
States Army Special Forces, as a medic during the Vietnam War; and

WHEREAS, During Operation Tailwind, a four day mission in Laos
lasting from September 11 to 14, 1970, Gary M. Rose tirelessly treated
more than 60 wounded in his unit while behind enemy lines, without
regard to his own personal safety and even after being hit by shrapnel;
he is credited with saving many lives; and

WHEREAS, Gary M. Rose went on to serve his country for 20 years,
achieving the esteemed rank of Army captain; and

WHEREAS, Gary M. Rose was honored for his bravery by President
Donald J. Trump in a ceremony at the White House on Monday, October 23,
2017, with other members of his Army unit in attendance as well as his
two grandchildren, and was lauded for his heroism and meritorious
service to his beloved country; and

WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which men and women like Gary M. Rose served their country; and

WHEREAS, Having exhibited his unwavering patriotism, Gary M. Rose
demonstrated his love for his country and merits forevermore, the
highest respect of this State and Nation; and

WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, and their Nation; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate United States Army veteran and Special Forces medic Gary
Michael Rose upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Medal of Honor; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Gary Michael Rose.
