CONGRATULATING Betty G. McLean upon the occasion
of her 100th Birthday on November 10, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Betty
G. McLean upon the occasion of her 100th Birthday; and
WHEREAS, In honor of her birthday, a celebration was held on
Saturday, November 11, 2017, attended by family including her daughter
Jane, two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren as well as former
neighbors; and
WHEREAS, Born on November 10, 1917, to Robert and Grace Marcott,
Betty is a lifelong resident of Carthage, New York; she graduated from
Carthage High School in 1935, and was employed by the Crown Zellerbach
Corporation paper company for 40 years; and
WHEREAS, Betty was married to Frederic McLean from 1939 until 1949;
and
WHEREAS, Betty G. McLean was an active member of the Carthage Area
Hospital Auxiliary, the First Baptist Church and the Carthage
Sesquicentennial Committee; she was also a board member of both the
United Way of Wilna and Champion and of the Four Rivers Historical
Society, as well as a member of the American Legion Post 789 Auxiliary
for more than 65 years; and
WHEREAS, Betty G. McLean was the first woman to serve on the Wilna
Town Board, and was also a deputy supervisor and secretary of the
Community Action Planning Council of Jefferson County; and
WHEREAS, In 1997, she was honored with the Jefferson County Lifetime
Achievement Award; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman, who has experienced the
incredible joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those
with the stamina and courage to savor a full life, has inspired the
lives of her many friends and family with her strength and beauty and
they look forward to celebrating many more birthdays with her; and
WHEREAS, Betty G. McLean has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for life and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Betty G. McLean upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Betty G. McLean.
